world according to ack!: Disqus Custom CSS Styling in 3 Easy Steps

  • birkin · 4 months ago
I just added Disqus to my WordPress blog. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts about whether using Disqus creates the problem of duplicate content for search engines, as what would have been posted once on one's site is now also posted on the discus site.

I've not noticed any duplicate content in regards to search, at least when using the JS version that places the content directly on your page. Not sure what would happen if you had the content in an iFrame though, but either way we are only talking about the comments, not the posts.

Hey thanks for this article. I just want to put in my 2 right here. After going through the disqus style sheet with Fire Bug I counted around 240 selectors (elements) to style. Obviously most of those one does not initially see but seriously, there should be a thorough, comprehensive guide which explains what every selector does in a detailed fashion. I know DISQUS is a free service but they should focus on bringing better quality to the developer/designer table, not just the hobbyist blogger table. That should be a priority. Not everyone is a high level, very experienced developer or has tons of time to go through 240 selectors. Perhaps they dont put a thorough guide up because they dont want people having the ability to add their custom styles?

Anyways the style sheet you indirectly linked to:

It's proper for the basics but after that and I am thankful for that. Peace!

I agree, having a reference guide for the elements would make it much more useful and powerful. I don't actually think they are trying to limit custom styles, my impression is that they are leaving it wide open for custom styles and they are doing as little as possible. Probably comes down to them not having a lot of time to put it together.

right, well hopefully someone in the community will put one together, like what you have done here. but 240 selectors = lot of time.

i wanted to say that the little rotating circlar pin wheel load icon does not show well against the black background. It shows like a grainy edged GIF. Is their a way to change this?
